Maple syrup, the old way.
Sap season starts February. Three taps in the sugar maples out back. Looking for two patient hands, a thermos, and someone willing to stand around a fire reducing it for six hours.
The following message was written by a human. Please take the time to read before jumping into Roots.
Hey there,
My name is Finn McArdle. I graduated from WHS in 2023 and am currently studying at Trinity College Dublin.
Roots is a project that was born from my own experiences. I have seen first-hand how the rapid advancements in technology can be extraordinarily exciting: the answer to every question a split-second away, a 'how-to' video on anything you can imagine. This is a great thing.
However, there is something lacking in our new age of instant access to everything: the meaning that previous generations of humans would have experienced from learning from a fellow human.
The goal of Roots is to facilitate real human connections that are meaningful, using our modern tools.
Roots uses modern tools, including AI, in service of an ancient human necessity: connection.
Thank you for checking out Roots. I hope you can meet someone new and/or learn something via the simple service it provides.
Sincerely,
Finn
Pass down the old ways. Find a neighbor who can fix it, teach it, drive it, or build it with you. Skills you forgot we had, rides you'd otherwise take alone, afternoons better spent together.
Roots is small by design. The goal is fewer, better connections — not endless scrolling.
A 3-minute form: your first name, road, and a few things you'd offer or want to learn. Add more later if you like.
Our AI looks at what neighbors are offering and needing across town. A real person reviews every match before you see it.
Write a short intro. They write one back. When both agree, a private message thread opens. Phone numbers stay yours to share.

7:12am train, weekdays. Two seats open. Happy to swing onto Newtown Turnpike. Quiet mornings, no aux cord politics.
Inherited from a baker in Vermont. Will give a jar and a one-hour lesson on feeding, folding, and the windowpane test. Trade ideas welcome.
Outdoor spigot dripping all winter. Plumber says easy fix but two weeks out. Anyone handier than me willing to take a look? Six-pack on me.
Reading Marcus Aurelius this summer, would love 3-4 people for monthly evenings on the porch. No background needed, just curiosity. Wine encouraged.
Wife passed last year. Looking for someone to come by Wednesday afternoons for tea and a chat. I've got stories about Weston going back 60 years. Easy parking.
