How we treat each other
Weston is small. What happens on Roots ripples out to the town. These aren't corporate rules — they're a shared understanding of what a good neighbor looks like online, so we can be good neighbors offline.
Use your real first name, or a nickname a Weston neighbor would recognize. Don't hide behind a persona. This isn't the rest of the internet.
Whether it's a spare car seat, a Sunday grill, a French tutor session, or a ride to the train, a real neighbor benefits. Post it. Don't apologize for it. Roots is here so those small offers find their match.
Short. Specific. Direct. "Anyone drive past the Merritt tomorrow morning?" beats a paragraph. Neighbors are more likely to help when it's easy to say yes.
Roots isn't for selling services, running your business, or drumming up leads. If your first instinct is to price something, it doesn't belong here. There are places for that. This isn't one of them.
Weston has plenty of viewpoints. Political fights and personal attacks belong somewhere else. If you're frustrated with someone, take a breath. If you can't say it in a way you'd say it to a neighbor's face, don't post it.
Roots is for adults 18 and over. Nothing sexual, no content involving minors, no swaps of babysitting-style arrangements without both parties knowing each other first. Trust your gut. If something feels off, report it.
When someone crosses a line
Tap "Report" on any message thread or profile that violates these guidelines. A human — currently that's Finn — reads every report. We may remove content, suspend the account, or permanently ban the person.
If you're in immediate danger or witnessing something criminal, call the Weston Police at (203) 222-2600 first, not Roots.
